I really do like the message board way of communicating. The only think that sucks about this FREE board is all the darn pop-ups!! I will "donate" the first $6.99 for a month of free pop-ups if people are really going to use this message board.

i personaly don't like it. Sorry to be different. I like the ease of the Yahoo stle board setup. I also like haveing one message board. Sure this setup works for larger sites but for the size of a local club I think it is too much. Since i read every post it just make looking at what is going on to frustrationg to me. Of course these are just my opinions for what little they are worth.

If we eventually want to get off Yahoo(which I would love to see happen) I think we should really have something like this for a communications line. I'm on alot of boards and really like this style of set up. A couple problems I see are, members who may just want e-mail messages, either due to a lack of time to spend on the web, or just a dislike for boards, whatever the case maybe, does this board or any other board software allow members to recieve new messages via e-mail? Another problem would be that we have alot of info stored at the Yahoo site, not counting the messages, that would need to be stored somewhere and until we have our own "dot whatever" I don't feel comfortable asking Dirk for more bandwidth. The one thing I really like about having this board, is that it gives folks a chance to get a feel for the board what they like or dislike and when it comes time to do something permanent they can make an informed decision. Yahoo is a cheap effective means of having a web-site and communications, but eventually I would like to be completely free of it and have our own home.

I am also haveing problems with the speed of this site it takes me 10-20 seconds to go from post to post. which is reall slow to me. Since I can usually get video faster than that.

Mark, it must be a bandwith problem, as it takes about the same time on a dial up connection. ;D

I found something else today that may or may not be a problem. I tried to copy&paste a long message from another board and found out there's a 5000 character limit on messages, so I just posted a link. Like I said, it may or may not be a problem. Not really a big deal, just something I found out about by accident.

Well, I'm here, and my vote says go with it. ( Sorry Mark ). I think as the club grows, you'll need such aboard to keep a good line of communications open for members, and us not quite members that are out of state. I have a personal beef with Yahoo, as they completely lost an entire club's page and boards that I am in. And didn't offer any help recovering it. We now have our own home, away from Yahoo! I don't notice things here being any slower or faster than other boards. And I like the format.

While outside pulling down my Christmas lights I thought some more about the whole web thing some more and these are my opinions. I was a member of NAXJA and they modified their web site a while back and since then I rarely visit the site. reason being is they added so many different boards. now there is a board for non-tech, modified tech, stock tech, land use, members only and a classified board plus all the seperate chapter boards. While some like this I did not. I found a bunch of cross posting. This taking up mucho bandwidth. Sure they as well as we have a board moderator/ web-master, but this person also has a real job and cannot keep up with the traffic. You also have people posting on the modified board asking about platnum spark plugs thinking that warented a modified post. So then you have several people trying to help out the moderator by telling him to move it to the stock board. then after the flameing you would have people answering both posts and then people flaming about the people flameing and I lost interest. I am not saying that this smae thing will happen here but I don't have the time to be checking 10 different boards on any one given site daily. That is why I liked the Yahoo site better than this. I am not hateing this site I just don't like the 10 different boards, plus the speed thing. I do applaud Alex for working so hard on getting things rolling and putting out different options for all to look at. This board hosting site just doesn't do it for me(speed) and the multiple boards don't do it for me either. Just my $.02

Yahoo is a cheap effective means of having a web-site and communications, but eventually I would like to be completely free of it and have our own home. This being said, and the general consensus being that we do want our own home, what other options do we have? I'm not up on what other communications programs that are out there. Personally I don't think 4 forums on 1 board are too many or confusing. As for the speed, this board loads faster than Yahoo or Rockcrawler for me. Some of us are still cursed to dial-up and will be for quite some time(that's what I get for living in the sticks ) I'm sick and tired of typing a message on Yahoo and hitting the post button only for it to say "sorry, but your session has expired, please log in again" *poof* all that time typing a message wasted(yes- I'm typing-impaired ) I go in and reset my user settings and it makes no difference, I still get Yahoo'ed. But it comes down to options and affordability, and right now, affordability is a big issue. As for options, what's available?? Is it possible to set up our own e-mail list based off our web-site? Can a program such as SquirrelMail do that? While personally I like boards more than Yahoo, I'm active on 3 boards and lurk on about a dozen others. I'm on 23 different Yahoo Groups and have founded 3 Yahoo Groups. Yahoo Groups can be a royal PITA and are especially vulnerable to spam and viruses. I've gotten several viruses and un-countable spam through Yahoo Groups, I've never gotten either one from a board. I've had to re-write my entire hard-drive thanks to a virus through Yahoo Groups. Never had that problem on boards.
