This might be a dumb question, but I want an answer anyway. Has anyone ever turned a 208 transfer case over and used it for drivers side front driveshaft. I see no reason the thing won't work as there is no pump or clutches. Plug the vent, drill a new one and mock up some linkage. The only reason I ask is because I am swapping a 350, 700R4, and Np208 into my 92 Cherokee. I have an empty 700 and 208 case mocked up under it and it fits pretty good. I had planned on using a NP241, but I got this tranny and transfer for $175 in good shape. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, the Dana 300 has a kit to do a flip with, so you should be able to. With splash oiling, I think the main issue would to get the shifting up away from any rocks, etc. I have no specific help though.

Well, if thats the only major issue then I should be o.k. I have worked on cars for over 12 years, but this is the first 4X4 I have ever built and the transfer case thing is still iffy with me. Thanks for the input. Anybody else?

Do you plan on lifting it? The 208 has a slip spline instead of a flanged output on the rear, I'm not sure on the availabilaty of conversions.

I'm just going by the first post, wich says no pump. I haven't seen one myself.

No, the 208 doesn't have a pump, I tore it down last night and replaced the front drum and some bearings. It is all gears and a chain. The front output is a solid yoke like the 231 that came out of it. The rear is a slip yoke which is also like the 231. I did notice that two of the holes don't line up on the adapter, but minor slotting will cure this. The way I have it fabbed in there now the original front driveshaft length is still good, but the rear needs shortened. Another question then is how short is too short for the rear driveshaft. Keep the feedback coming. Thanks guys!

Well CJ5s ran with like a 6" drive shaft. But that really limits lift.(it was prolly more likely 12") But isn't that what all ther guys tell the women? I really don't know much about the 208s But I have never heard of a SYE available for them.

I didn't realize that there were a lot of women interested in transfer cases and drive lines.
