On the topic of buying trailers, instead I am thinking of doing a little work to my dads trailer. Right now it is an angle iron frame trailer with rails. What I was thinking about doing is putting channel iron under the angle iron, removing the side rails, make it two feet longer. Don't know if it would be worth the hassle or not, maybe just as easy to build a new chassis completely. Rob, on your figures what would just he steel to make the main frame of the trailer cost. I would have axles, jack, ball hitch, wood, ect... The extra 2ft would really be nice as well as getting rid of the side rails. Need to goto some farm sales again this winter and buy some old equipment to cut up for steel.

What size channel iron are you thinking about using for the mainframe? When I was at Titan, 5" channel was standard with 3" channel iron every 5' for crossmembers. How long is your trailer now? If it's 16' and you want to extend it 2' and have enough for a solid tongue you'd need another 5', so you'd need 2 pieces of channel iron 23' long, plus the 3" channel for crossmembers. Let me know what sizes you're interrested in and I'll get some prices for you.
