Acutally kinda the speedo wire. The spedometer is electronic. There is a plug with I think 2 wires that goes in to the sensor there in the picture.
Check that first and make shure it is ok. Then if still no worky if you have access to a computer analizer hook it up and drive and see if the computer is getting a reading on speed from the sender or not.
Andy
EDIT: Found this in the 00 XJ FSM, should be the same
SPEED SENSOR TESTING Test the speed sensor with an ohmmeter. Place the ohmmeter leads on the terminals in the sensor connector (Fig. 42). Rotate the transmission output shaft and observe the ohmmeter needle. The needle should deflect indicating the switch is opening/closing as the rotor moves past the sensor (Fig. 42). Replace the sensor if the ohmmeter does not display any kind of reading. If a digital ohmmeter is being used, the sensor should generate an ohmmeter readout each time the switch opens and closes. ---------------------------- Fig 42 shows there being 2 wires and putting a lead from the meter in each one.

Well here is the deal I have checked the plug and it was not claped on so I think that when I had transmition work done they did not clap it back on. So I clamped it back and still no speedo and from what wire I can see it all seems to be intact. Any more ideas? I do not have an olmmeter. Oh ya and I have no odometer it is stuck at the same milage as when it stopped working.
thanks again, Bradey

I wonder if the wire didn't get pinched somewhere? Other thing could be that they didn't get the speedo gear that drives the sensor back in correctly. The sensor is in the Tcase though so they shouldn't even have had it apart You can probly pick up a cheap VOM somewhere for not much $ and test the sensor to see if it is sending a signal. But if its quiting directly corresponded to the tranny repair I would suspect one of the above.
