Just wanting to get everybodys opinions/experiences on control arms. Right now I have stock uppers and rustys adjusable lowers. The lowers I got used. The rustys ones make lots clunking where they don't run a jam nut on the adjusting threads. The stock uppers I have noticed twist quite a bit under flex to.
Where I am right now at 5" I am getting close to where most seem to recomend drop brackets or long arms. Don't know if they are really needed or not though, maybe if I go another inch they would be.
Thought about building my own arms with some RE/Currie JJ on them, but don't know if I can build them for much less than I could buy them? Might just keep an eye out for used ones.
On adjustable length how needed is it? Are fixed lenght arms from RE for instance fine. Or is adjustable the way to go?

IMHO Adjustable is the way to go. How about putting a jam nut on the Rusty's lower? or I have some parts for makeing a longarm that I bought before I did what I did. they might be spoken for but I would make you a decent price on them if they aren't taken. what i have is some DOM a big piece of all thread. some thread couplers and some jam nuts. I was going to copy this setup. www.xjworld.4wdriver.com/longarm.htm BTW I allready have the nut and the coupler welded together and machined down and holes drilled for the plug welds. But like I said it might be spoken for. If you're interested in this stuff let me know and I will find out if the other party wants them or not.

i don't see any need for drop brackets for you since it's a trailer rig. I believe they are more for road/offroad applications. I would advise the RE superflex control arms though. I have them adj upper and fixed lower and when flexed out you can really see the johnny joint twist up. They take the forces off the bushings and mounts and make it alot more free moving.

I know lots of people get them for smoother ride at higher lifts. What I have observed though is that as you get higher the rig tries to drive over the front axle if it is against an obstacle instead of going over it.
I am not at that point yet but hated to invest a bunch of cash in RE arms and then down the road stop using them.
Dunno, guess I over think stuff to much ;D
Will keep watching the for sale boards on JU and NAXJA

A front locker cures that. ;D I really like my JKS LCAs but they are pretty high. Just get yourself some DOM and RE super flex joints and make long arms.

I did find the cause of the louder than normal clunk this evening. The rubber bushing in the adjusable end of one of my rustys arms is partially blown out do these things take a bushing I can get at a parts store or do I have to call him. I bought them used not new. I will do some further research on the long arm stuff though. Probly over kill with 5" of lift.

They are black arms. Adjusable with the bend in them. The bushings are just black rubber.

Sounds like they are stock bushings! But if you ask robin he had a heck of a time getting my old ones out!

Sounds like they are stock bushings! But if you ask robin he had a heck of a time getting my old ones out! Yup, I had to take a torch and burn the old ones out, clean everything up and install the new ones, the install was a breeze, just the disassembly was a PITA.
