took the exhaust appart on the xj today. It was like pulling the bannana out of the tailpipe (beverly hills cop ;D). Runs much better now! The mufler was pancaked and the cat had puked its guts into the muffler further plugging it.
Right now all I have for exhaust is the hollowed out cat (thanks to a heavy bar). Really doesn't sound bad at all, but I need to get some kind of muffler on it and put the tailpipe back on.
I have been told that flowmasters are tough and stand up to bashing, but hate the expense. Any out there that are cheaper but do well?

flow tech is a good lasting muf and sounds like a flowmaster or a dynomax

I was condidering the flowtech. Have those on my chevy and they seemed pretty stout. Could probably pick one of those up next time I am someplace there is an advance auto. Seems like I got the ones I have now for around $30 each... 3 years ago. On the glasspack..... a straigt pipe is probly quieter

The nice thing about the Flowmaster is I have used it as a skid many times and it still looks like new (well almost but it preforms like new.

I ordered a Flowtech Afterburner today from Summit racing. While working on my chevy this weekend I was reminded how i had to put a dent in one of the Flowtechs on it for clearance. I had to beat on it with a large ball peen hammer to make a dent in it.
$39.95 from summit. Also got some of those band style clamps that don't cripm the pipe. that way if I do need to take it appart in the future it will be much easier.
