You can do a AW4 which is from a Cherokee and it has overdrive. Or you could do a torqueflite 999 from a TJ or maybe a YJ, I think they are called 999 in YJs. The 999 would bolt right up and it does not have a computer. Here is a AW4 site for a TJ, www.stu-offroad.com/aw4/index.htm

This is a fairly easy swap. We do alot of them. The 999 will fit directly in place of the ax15. You may have to adjust the length of your shafts but I doubt it. They always turn about the same length when were done with them. If you can find a 999 from a wrangler you won,t have to move the crank position sensor. If you find one from a late CJ then you will have to buy a relocator kit from Advance adapters. It is easier to buy and mount a floor shifter for the auto than to try to change the column and the linkage. B&m makes a nice shifter for this application. I have several 999,s out of CJ,s. I think I have a couple out of pre 91 models YJ,s so you would still have to buy the relocator kit for them. Mike 4x4 Land.com 785 862 8008

I forgot, the 999 does not have any computer controls and no wiring. The throttle bracket on your 95 4.0 already has the cable slot in it for the kickdown cable so that makes it easy as well. Mike

I like my 999 but I really want overdrive. If I was you I would do a AW4 or a 700R4. The new autos in 2003 and up TJs have overdrive. I'm not sure if the name changed or not but they are the same length as the 3 speed 999. If you found one in a junk yard then I would get over the 3 speed 999.

I used to have a hard time getting my TJ into 2nd and 4th until I ripped out the rubber shifter boot.
I have thought about swapping out my manual, but I'd rather put the money towards an Atlas. What I really need the lower gearing - I glazed my clutch trying to get out of the Rock Garden this past weekend.
A couple of weeks ago out at Carnage Canyon (KS Rocks Park) it was pretty slick. I think the manual tranny really came in handy. The clutch allowed me to rock back and forth to build momentum to get over.
