Do we need to mark the trails for the KK? Personally, I think a little marking could benefit someone that gets separated from their group. Any thoughts?

I think as long as the trail leader and the gunner and hopefully the rocking chair know their trails and evryone adhears to the "keep the person behind you in your mirrors" rule I don't thin there should be to many problems. I will agree that marking the beginning and end of a trail could be benificial but I know some people that have flagging in the middle of a trail with no other way to go to me that is over kill! But to each their own I guess. Lat year at the 4X4 feasco I put up 2 pieces of flaging and had absolutly no problem with my group.

I think part of it depends on how many are in your group, at the Fest I had 20 in mine and due to break downs etc the group did get split, luckily it didn't get out of hand with anyone lost, but I know if I'd never been in area wheelin', had a stock or close to stock rig, and got lost/split from the group, I'd be pissed! Especially if I got stuck on a trail that I shouldn't be on. I don't know, maybe I'm thinking too much, but I like to be prepared.

I personally like the marked trails gives me a idea of what im up against and if by any chance i was to go down there with anyone that wasnt familar with the area i would have a general idea of where im at and whats up ahead ....

A little marking can go a long way.

I like marking the trails with colors according to difficulty. If I was out there in a stock rig and came to a point where there were several options as to which way to go, I would hate to end up on a hard trail breaking my rig cause I couldn't turn around. I do think that this should be done intelligently, i.e. not every 10', but in some places it would be very helpful. I also think that if there was something in the staging area that told what each color meant, then people out there on a normal weekend would have a better idea of where to go according to how they are built.

My opinion on permantly marking trail is different than marking for a event. But if you don't know the trail I personally think the trail should be walked before I put my vehicle on it. Like before just my $.02.

The only reason I mentioned having a color key, was because there are still flags out there from the 4x4 Fest last May. I figure, if they are going to stay up, why not make it so that everyone knows what they mean.
If they aren't going to be left up, then there is no need.

I didn't plan on using anything the FL had marked, my goal is to revamp the trail system to make them coincide better with the difficulty level. IMHO, I'd just as soon take down all their markers before the KK and put our own up.

Oh by no means did I mean that we would use the FL flags. I was just assuming that we would also use colored flags, and if we would end up leaving them there(as was done in FL in the past), people would have an idea of what to expect from any given trails.
I think that the only places that they would be necessary would be in areas where there are multiple options as to where to go.

I've only being wheeling at tuttle a few times and think marking trails can be a good thing if you don't know the area. But common sense should always prevail. If it's a steep loose climb and you have open diffs don't try it.
With that said if you have trail leaders that know the area depending on classification there should be no need to mark trails. Just don't leave in the woods by myself afterall this is Kansas- lions, tigers and bears- oh my.

By no means am I trying to say not to try new obstacles. We're in the sport so we can take on new challenges and see what we can conquer. It can also be fun watching some of these attempts and get excellent pics of carnage.
Common sense should prevail: you won't climb a 3' ledge in a stock ford ranger but if they try I want to be there to snap pictures of the carnage ;D
