Hypothetically speaking, if you had $800 for mods what would you do?

Well first off I would get rid of that little D35 I have. I think 800 would more than cover that. Since that wasn't an option I think in favor of the 35's with the winch to help me out when that axle goes snap again!

I'd modify my front axle, maybe a Warn Conversion Kit with the Alloy Axle Shafts? Something along those lines. I would strongly consider a different tranny too, right now i have the stock SR-4 in there. It works well but i'm sure it will eventually die. I may go with the auto or a T-176. Any thoughts?

I love my auto! It's nice to only have 2 pedals for 2 feet, makes wheelin' more fun for me, however, that being said, I had a T-176 in a CJ 7 and it's a great tranny, nice tight shift pattern although 1st gear could be lower, I think it's around 3.40 something, but with a 4 to 1 kit and a hand throttle it's a good set up. I'm just spoiled with my auto

I need to make up my mind if i'm going to rebuild that T-999 or not. If i decide to use it i'm thinking i should rebuild it first.

IMHO, I'd have it rebuilt, just to be safe. That would really bite if you got it in and then after a few miles it needed work. Have you thought about a manual valve body or a shift kit? I don't know alot about autos, but if I understand it right, a manual valve body lets you shift it like a manual with crisper shifts. Mine has a shift kit and there's no soft shifts, when it shifts gears there's no pause or softness, it shifts hard! Not as in difficult, when it hits 2nd and drive it'll set you back in the seat. On the trail I use mine like a manual, selecting the gear based on the obstacle.

The manual valve body sounds like something i would be interested in. I know the whole process will take some time and money and right now the SR-4 is doing well. I know it won't last forever with the reputation it has. Thanks for the tips.
