What do ya think, should we have a fund raiser competition in the Garden during the Kansas Krawl?

Hey rob, we would have to set up cones or something. The day that Mark broke, I CJ5 came behind him and went through in about 30 seconds hardly spun a tire. I know we talked about making it a timed event, but I think we should also govern the line to make it more difficult.

I'd have to agree with marking a given line somehow(cones, flags, etc.) but then we'd also have to decide how hard we want it(personally, I'm thinkin' as extreme as possible)and come up with a points system etc. Right now I'm just kinda going off Harolds idea, but, it needs to be discussed and eventually voted on whether we do it or not.

Kind of like points off for stopping or backing, extra points for a given exit, plus time. Maybe a max time and min so no one will race thru. this will keep people from taking the easy lines for time.

Aw bummer, i wanted to take the easy lines!
I think a marked path would probably be the best and i like the idea of a point system too, just don't ask me to be the guy calculating all the points up.

What do ya think Harold? Would you like to put something together, basically be the competition coordinator?

If we get it passed, yeah. I see there was some against on the poll.

After the discussion about the competition at yesterday's meeting I got to thinking(uh-oh, we're in trouble now! ) Now keep in mind, there's alot of if's to this scenario. If the JC rockcrawl comp. is a success, and we are able to help out the promoter, how about trying to work out some sort of deal with him to use his course? Keep in mind I'm talking about next year('04) and holding it the same time with our multi-day event while hosting a SWFWDA quarterly. That would solve the trail over-run issues at the ORV and we would also be able to dedicate a full day to it on a course that no one has run. There would be more logistics such as rules, entry fee, etc. but what does everyone think of the basic idea?

Robin~
I don't like the idea of having the rock crawl in JC. I think that having the event in Randolph, and then having to get everyone down to JC, which is almost an hour, would not work. Chances are a lot of the rigs that would compete would be trailered, so that adds time. Plus, I don't see very many people wanting to drive an hour from the ORV to JC to watch, and then drive back for another day of wheeling.
THe other option was to have them at the same time, but then those competing would not get to run trails. I just don't see it working well. JMO.

You raise some good points, but I disagree about the driving an hour. An hour is nothing compared to 7 to 10 that some may drive just to get here. I used to drive an hour, in the frog, one way to work everyday. Keep in mind that if there's a comp. it'll be an all day affair with trail runs probably on a requested basis.
We also need to find out the definite boundaries of the ORV and look at the possibility of setting up a course other than the Garden.

See I would think that after driving 7-10 hours someone would not feel like driving anymore. If it was one day, and there were no activities at the ORV that day, I can see it maybe working. The reason being, a lot of people will be staying in Manhattan and then it is only a 1/2 hour trip. I don't know, it is just the first thing that came to my mind when it was brought up. I know people can and probably would drive it, but I am doubtful it is the most favorable thing for them.
I really like the idea of checking the boundaries and seeing what we can do in the park aside from the existing trails. I think we should also check with the COE about making new trails in the park. I have never really looked, but I am sure that there are some tough spots that could be wheeled just off the existing trails.
